Where is the wind in Brazil?

Northeast Brazil has one of the most reliable trade-wind belts in the world, and most kite property ads you will find online are in Ceará: Cumbuco, Taíba, Jericoacoara, Icaraizinho. São Miguel do Gostoso, in Rio Grande do Norte, sits on the same coast further east and gets far less attention from sellers, even though kiters know it well.

How does Gostoso compare with Jericoacoara and Cumbuco?

The table uses published kite travel guides. It is a fair comparison of conditions, not a ranking. Each place suits a different rider.

Jericoacoara and Preá get the strongest peaks, up to 35 knots, and a lively village scene, but the trip from Fortaleza is about four hours and the last stretch is soft sand. Cumbuco is the easiest to reach, 30 to 60 minutes from Fortaleza, and its high season gets crowded, especially at Cauipe lagoon.

Gostoso sits in between: steady 20 to 25 knots, a season that runs into February, a highway drive from Natal airport and fewer people on the water.

What are the kite spots in São Miguel do Gostoso?

The main spot is Ponta do Santo Cristo, with a sandbar about 300 m (1,000 ft) offshore and side-onshore wind from the right. It works for freeride, freestyle and waves, according to IKSURFMAG.

Around it you have Monte Alegre, about 2 km away, with flat pools at low tide; Tourinhos for a downwinder with waves; the Perobas reef pools 20 km away; and the Galinhos lagoons, 90 km by buggy. The water is about 29 °C (84 °F), so most people ride without a wetsuit.

Who rents a kite house in Gostoso?

Most guests are Brazilian. Among foreign Airbnb guests, Germans and Argentines are the largest groups, according to AirROI, and both countries have strong kite scenes.

The wind season runs through the Brazilian summer holidays and well beyond, so a house set up for kiters gives guests a reason to book outside December and January. Even so, revenue peaks in January and is lowest in September. That said, average occupancy in town was 26.2% over the last year, so a house that is not well set up and well listed will sit empty.

What should a kitesurf house have?

Use this as a checklist when you visit, or on our video call.

  1. Walking distance to Ponta do Santo Cristo, or a short drive.
  2. Lockable storage for boards, kites and bars near the entrance.
  3. An outdoor shower and a place to rinse and dry gear.
  4. Fast, stable internet. Many kiters work remotely and ride in the afternoon.
  5. Separate units or chalets, so you can rent to more than one group at a time.
  6. A recorded deed on the matrícula, so you can resell to any buyer later.

Is a kite house a good investment?

Be realistic. AirROI puts average Airbnb revenue in Gostoso at R$ 34,386 a year per listing (about US$ 6,300 / €5,700), before management, cleaning and taxes. Compared with local asking prices, that is a gross yield of roughly 2.5% to 4% a year. Asking prices for land rose around 12% a year from 2021 to 2025 in archived VivaReal listings, and one tracked house listing rose about 7% in a year, but past asking prices are not a forecast.

Brazilian fixed income often pays more with less work. A kite house makes sense when you want to ride there yourself for part of the year and let it cover some of its costs the rest of the time.

Conversions use the Brazilian Central Bank PTAX rate of Oct 30, 2026: R$ 5.42 per US$ and R$ 6.05 per €. They are approximate. Deeds and payments are in reais.

Where do I have kite properties in Gostoso?

Around Ponta do Santo Cristo and Santo Cristo II my listings include a house with a pool and three chalets on a 1,350 m² (14,531 sq ft) plot, a three-suite house with a beach tennis court, and corner lots. In the center there is a beachfront gated community with kite storage, a beach club and direct beach access. Availability changes, so ask me for the current list.
